It's been said that Sam Taylor has "a voice and a face that will break hearts". With his debut release, 'Run Away', featuring on the soundtrack to BBC2's comedy, Beautiful People, Sam is poised to become seriously hot property.
We caught up with Sam to find out if he's seeing anyone, what he wears under his clothes and what he thinks of the attention he's getting.
You're bound to pick up plenty of gay fans - will you mind the attention?
No, not at all - the attention is great because it means people are relating and responding to what I am doing, the music I am making and the message I am trying to put across.
You've already found success in the gay market with your single, 'Run Away’, as well as your song, 'Sometimes I Need You', featuring on the soundtrack to Beautiful People. What does this success mean to you?
It’s amazing - I couldn’t ask for a better platform for people to first hear me. To be working with Terry Ronald and Ian Masterson on the two songs is a great privilege - they both have such amazing history in the music industry and they know how to get the best out of me. Terry and Ian both wrote and produced the two Beautiful People tracks.
The response to those songs has been amazing - it’s been instrumental in getting my music out there and allowing people to hear me. Success to me is actually reaching people and making a difference in some way - to have my music successfully reach its goal and have people respond to what I am doing.
What is 'Run Away' about?
'Run Away' is about wanting to escape the life you're in and aspiring to a better life, like being stuck in a small town when your mind and heart want bigger and better things. You want to run away and experience all the things you dream of. You feel like you just need to get out and be yourself for once. You need to run away for the sake of your sanity and soul.
What are your ambitions?
To make music that people can relate to - music that people can enjoy on all levels, whether it be music to relax to, dance to, or whatever. I think that if my music can get to people - affect them in some way - then I will be satisfied.
I can't wait to be gigging soon - it's going to be amazing to experience that and have people reacting to the songs in a live setting, to have that energy and atmosphere that you can only get from a live show. I think my main ambition would be for a long and happy career.
"When I wake up and can't remember anything, I know that I had fun."
We have to ask - are you seeing anyone?
No, not at the moment. [laughs]
What makes for a good night out for you?
When I wake up and can't remember anything, I know that I had fun. I like being out with my friends and just having a laugh and not caring about looking stupid. I like just being totally free and having a great time. It's good to just have fun and smile.

Who are your musical influences?
I love all music. I am a huge music fan and just really soak up everything I can. I think it can only be a good thing to draw inspiration from all musical genres. Gavin DeGraw has influenced me. I love his voice and his music - he did the theme tune for One Tree Hill.
Dionne Warrick has been a huge influence - I grew up listening to her every single day. When I started to really find my own tastes and styles of music, I started listening to a lot of pop, which I still love. Conner Reeves is also amazing. I like Justin Timberlake, of course, and Britney! I am a big fan! And then there’s India Arie, P!nk, Colbie Caillat - the list goes on. As I say, I love all music, but those are a few particular favourites.
If you could only have one song on your iPod, what would it be?
This is a really hard question! If that was the case, I would take it back and ask for a bigger iPod. One song, wow - that’s really hard. Right now, it has to be P!nk’s 'Glitter in the Air'. It’s on her new album and I am so in love with it. But then I do love a good classic Whitney song.
"For me, there needs to be that attraction and a certain something. I like someone who makes me laugh."
Which comes first for you: sex or love?
It has to be love, but you do tend to do the other one before you fall in love. For me, there needs to be that attraction and a certain something. I like someone who makes me laugh.
What are your indulgences?
Pizza! I do tend to eat it a lot, and I have massive cravings for chocolate, too. My favourite is either Kit Kat Chunky or Green & Blacks milk chocolate. Oh, and clothes. [laughs] I like to shop. A lot!
What's in your bedside table?
Well, at this moment in time, I don’t have one, but I think if I did it would be filled with everything and anything,
I expect I would just tuck everything away in the bedside drawer. When I clean up, I put everything away where I can't see it, so I guess a bedside table is good for that. A bedside table is usually a very private place, so I would not tell you what was in there, anyway!

So are you a boxers, trunks or briefs man?
I think it's boxers, not baggy or anything. I like a good pair of well fitted Calvins and I also like B*boy underwear. You have got to have good underwear and B*boy underwear is a winner.
What's coming up for you?
Well, I have just finished in the studio and got some more tracks down, which I am so thrilled with. I’m going to start getting out and gigging - that’s the next step. And we are going to do music videos for some of the songs.
We have had a huge response from the few tracks we have released, so it's going to be exciting when we are able to give people a bit more and let them see what else we have been working on. I can’t wait!
Anything to add?
I hope people will enjoy and listen to what’s coming next. I am really excited about the whole project and couldn’t ask for better people around me. William Baker is amazing at what he does and to have his input into it all is a total blessing. I could not ask for more.
Until my website is up and running, there’s going to be a different song and picture put up every week at www.samtaylormusic.co.uk. And people can add me on MySpace at www.myspace.com/samtayloruk, Thank you for the questions and interest. All the best.
